Sorta life changing

I have been going to the chiropractor the last couple weeks because of some back problems that I have basically had my whole life. The past couple years my neck and shoulders have been getting progressively worse. After an X-ray, I saw my scoliosis and my uneven hips (which I knew I had) and I found out I have no curve in my neck like I guess I am supposed to and I have some twist in my spine.
So.... after several adjustments and using ice instead of heat (a great discovery) I am feeling pretty great. Some of my problems cannot be fully taken care of, like the scoliosis, but I already have SO much more movement in my spine.
Though my spine felt so much better, I was still getting crazy bad headaches and they were getting worse, especially the weekend before my Monday visit. So Monday I brought it up to the Chiropractor and he did some energy tests. He explained that I had some inflammation in my skull and that it was usually due to a food allergy. So he asked what I craved, because when looking for an allergy it is usually something you crave. Easy for me......hearty foods....breads. After grabbing some wheat and testing the wheat while I held it he confirmed that I do in fact have a gluten sensitivity.
Can he be totally sure? After studying it more when I got home I realized that that fact explained a lot, like why I feel sick after I eat. The reason my headaches were getting worse was because we had been eating a lot more whole wheat because its healthier. We have been making our own whole wheat tortillas and bread.
After studying a lot more, and some help from my mother in law, we are changing our diet..... Mark is so amazing to be doing this with me. Since it is a sensitivity, I am going totally off gluten for a while while we try to rebuild my healthy bacteria and intestine walls. Then we will introduce it back in small amounts and see what happens. Small amounts is probably what I will stick with the rest of my life though. :) If my body is ok with it. We are off to a healthier us and I am excited about it! I will let you...my blog...know how it goes!

Under construction

All this home remodeling this summer has put us in the mood to "remodel" our little apartment....well me... it has put me in that mood. These couch pillows were our first step, because they were the easiest. Our futon no longer looks a little drab....hooray.


We have a lot of next steps. We cannot technically remodel our apartment, because it is not ours, but we can build more things to make it look awesome. Here are couple models of things we will build. Not only is Mark skilled at building, but he is skilled at modeling and building that same modeling.

This will be our new headboard.

We will also be building a new coffee table and some frames and a couple other things. It might take a while, with school starting and all but we will put the finished products up later.

Bear Lake is a really fun place

and we have been there A LOT this summer.

We will probably go again next week, and do a sandcastle day. Literally just go and build a sandcastle all day. Sounds great doesn't it? We will let you know how it turns out.

50 years

Congratulations to both my grandparents this year on 50 years of marriage. We only hope to be as cool as them one day.

Grandma and Grandpa Hancock invited the whole family out to Logan canyon to a cabin for a couple days in July. We all had a blast! Grandma said it was the closest to the celestial kingdom she will ever be on earth.


Everyone came out to bear lake for Grandma and Grandpa Walker's 50th. They love getting to see their 42 grandchildren whenever they can, so this was great to be all together in the sun!


I am so lucky to come from such an amazing family.

Summer is almost over. That means back to Logan for us. We are glad to go home but have loved seeing and spending more time with everyone.

21!

Twas a beautiful July day in in the Salt Lake valley on my birthday.

Mark surprised me with a new set of scriptures when I woke up, with my married name embossed on them. He told me he just had to make sure I knew I was his.
So sweet of him.
I had expressed interest in a new set earlier because my old ones are falling apart badly, so I was very excited!

Then Guido walked in the room... I think he resembles a fish in this picture. We love to wake up to the sound of snorting at the door when we stay at the Thorups.

We took the day and walked around downtown salt lake which included a trip to the Apple store to play with the goods.
I love anything to do with Apple... the Iphone will be our first purchase after we graduate and make some mula.... it will probably come before a second car.

I got some fun new jewelry at the gateway for my birthday as well... no picture provided sorry.

This was our final event of the day. Mark took me to a piano bar! I got to use my I.D. on my 21st birthday. Besides showing up WAY to early to a bar and ordering a juice (we should have just worn a Mormon sign on our head) and a little bit of bar humor it was a blast. This place had dueling pianists and the show was so fun to watch!

Such a great day.

21 is officially the last "anticipated" birthday. It's just getting older and older from here on out.

The past few weeks

Since I can't keep up with blogging very well lately, this is an update of the past couple weeks. :)

We went camping! We took our parents trailer and found a nice little place up grover park. It was good to get a little wilderness time. Mark is an excellent fire builder.

I was in the Logan Herald Journal with my Pal, Aubrey. It was a great opportunity! I have had a ton of parents and students email me about wanting to be in the program. We fed the ducks at first dam in this picture. What you cannot see is our fear of the geese (well you can see it a little, because we are on the table). These geese had 8 little babies and were chasing us around barking at us. Terrifying. Click here for the article.

Carla's kitchen part dos. Mark raised their cabinets 9 inches! He put crown molding around the top and new shelves in below and in the bathroom. I LOVE the shelves. They are free standing, so no supports on the bottom, so cute! All that is left to do is paint and hang the doors again. Click here to see Carla's kitchen part uno.

More work on the trailer! It looks amazing. Detailed pictures to come. He just finished putting in a shelf and the dust collection system.

Almost Done

Mark has now transformed this lowly little flat bed trailer into.....

A traveling workshop. It is almost done. These are some of the pictures of the process. There will be more later once it is completely finished. Now he has a place for all of his tools and a perfect work station.
Both sides flip out and he has some nice tables to work on.

He now has the outside and main structure done. Just little conveniences left to construct, like shelves, locks on the outside, a suction system for keeping it clean of saw dust, etc. It looks amazing though! Perfect summer project.
